EX-GIO MINISTERS JOIN LEGISLATIVE RACE
The upcoming legislative election now looks more and more like a battleground for GIO minsters past and present, as two DPP politicians who used to hold the post, Lin Jia-long and Yao Wen-chi, are set to be nominated by their party. Meanwhile the sitting GIO minister, Johnny Chiang, may also run for a legislative seat on behalf of the KMT.
Yao Wen-chi won the legislative primary in Datung and Shihlin district of Taipei City. He is really happy for the achievement as he only started to work on the districts two years ago.
He believes the former GIO minister
Sharing the same feeling is Lin Jia-long, who quit the GIO minister position in March of 2005 and competed agianst Taichung city mayor Jason Hu in the mayoral election.
However, the fame didn't translate into votes.
After losing the election, he began to mobilize grassroot supporters, this is the key to his victory in the public poll in the sixth electoral district of Taichung city.
Coincidentally, KMT is to introduce a new candidate, another former GIO minister Su Jun-bin, who is to run for the legislative election in the second electoral district of Taoyuan County.
Su says that the elections see so many former GIO ministers, this may not be a plus for his campaign.
It is speculated that incumbent GIO minister Johnny Chiang would be recruited by the ruling party to return to his hometown Fengyuan of Taichung to join the election. But since the KMT hasn't announced the plan officially, Chiang says his top priority now is to carry out the duties of his current position.
