PAY RAISE FOR PUBLIC SERVANTS?
A pay raise for public employees may be on the horizon.
Premier Wu Den-yih revealed during a banquet on Tuesday evening that as long as the economy continues to recover and the tax revenues will also maintain its steady growth throughout the first quarter, then a salary increase for public servants will possibly be proposed later this year.
President Ma invited KMT legislators to a banquet on Tuesday with one legislator quoting Premier Wu Den-yih who spoke at the event.
Wu was rumored to say that if the first quarter imports and exports, along with domestic demand growth and tax revenues maintain stable growth,
he did not rule out a supplementary budget provision to increase pay for civil servants. KMT legislators were in agreement that a salary increase would promote overall economic prosperity.
DPP legislators questioned such actions as simply being a ploy by the KMT to bolster the party in presidential and legislative elections.
Ke Chien-min also believed that another oil crisis may occur,
along with domestic inflation as a civil service pay increase potentially spurring inflation or creating a widening wealth gap as he urged the government to be careful in their actions.
