Blooming Business
With Christmas celebration less than two weeks away, poinsettias are becoming a hot buy at flower markets. And what's catching the attention of customers more this year, are the new breeds, the two-toned poinsettias, which are running low because of the Flora Expo. Despite of the higher prices, people are still going for it to spice up their holiday.
Christmas is approaching, and poinsettias are selling extremely well at flower markets.
This year, flower farmers developed a new species of two-toned poinsettias nicknamed "Ruby." The red and yellow flowers change color over time, and many consumers are inquiring about them at flower markets.
The most popular type of poinsettias, however, remains the traditional red ones.
"Lemon-yellow" and "salmon-pink" poinsettia species have also proven to be popular due to their unusual colors.
Poinsettia prices are up 5 NT to 10 NT this year, but the slight price hike has not affected sales.
Experts recommend fertilizing potted poinsettias once every three months to keep them in bloom year after year.
