Weather Update
The northeast monsoon is heading southward, so that means the temperature will be dropping in the next two days, and it may be less humid as well. Also, experts are warning about bad air in the Yunlin and Chiayi areas, so residents are suggested to stay indoors if possible.
As the northeast monsoon moves south, temperatures will fall and air quality in parts of Taiwan will deteriorate.
Environmental Protection Administration data shows that the particulate concentration in southern Taiwan, including Yunlin and Chiayi, will likely double or triple over the next few days.
According to farmers with crops along the Hsiluo River, the northeast monsoon prevents vegetables from growing and crops have to be tightly bound in nets to prevent wind damage.
In Yunlin and Chiayi, particulate matter concentration is expected to reach 219 milligrams per cubic meter per hour.
EPA officials say that air quality will be the worst between noon and 6 p.m., and that water trucks will be used to alleviate the situation if necessary.
In the meantime, those with respiratory conditions should be especially careful.
