Banning Plastic Wrappings
Plastic wraps are widely used in our daily lives, and they are certainly one of our kitchen helpers. However, those that are made from PVC or PVDC are extremely polluting, causing a great threat to our health and to our society.
The Environmental Protection Administration is now seeking to ban the non-recyclable product by 2013.
PVC and PVDC products that contain plasticizers release dioxins when incinerated.
The PVC industry has been responsible for many cases of environmental pollution in the past, and the Environmental Protection Administration hopes to implement a ban on PVC and PVDC plastic wrap by 2013 at the earliest.
The EPA's ban will apply only to household PVC plastic wrap in the beginning, and will not affect the packaging of food products sold at convenience stores for the time being.
The EPA estimates that the plan can cut incinerated chlorine by 1,555 tons annually, but environmental groups are calling for the measure to be fast-tracked.
Many nations around the world already have PVC packaging bans in place, and environmental groups say that the EPA should be more proactive about implementing the measure.
