With the municipality election day just months away, both DPP and KMT candidates are doing what they can to secure more votes. This year, televised election debates will be co-hosted by PTS and other media, and the two parties are yet to discuss the dates and rounds of the debates.

A televised debate coinciding with end of year 5 municipal elections will ultimately be carried out by PTS and 4 newspapers and 1 news agency.

The list includes China Times, United Daily News, Liberty Times, Apple Daily and Central News Agency. Internet news media and universities and social groups will also participate.

On the afternoon of September 1st, PTS and high level representatives from participating media visited with the DPP Secretary-General Wu Nai-jen with both sides reaching a consensus.The DPP's active interest in participating in the debate also received a positive response from the KMT.

Previously, President Ma and DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen's ECFA debate had been televised as a means of educating people about ECFA.

Both parties hoped that similar debates could educate the public about a candidate's political views and personal qualities.
