Protecting Pomelo Farmers
Taiwan has an abundant supply of various fruits, which is why the island has a decent record of exporting fruits abroad. Following bananas and mangos, Douliou's pomelos are becoming a high demand in the China market as well. With its increasing orders, the local government is aiming to apply for an international trademark to protect the pomelo farmers.
The baskets of pomelos have been carefully picked and being packaged for export to China.
Although pomelos weren't part of the 18 agricultural items for ECFA, the fruit's export to China hasn't decreased.
Pomelos have been experiencing a great harvest this year due to stable weather.
Taiwan is expected to export over 1 million tons to China this year.
Local and central government has decided to help farmers establish their brand in the fragmented market.
A mark to guarantee where the fruit is produced or a trademark is very important to argicultural products. Not only can it help ensure quality, but also establish trust with consumers.
It's a win win situation for both consumers and farmers. The best result is to limit the amount of fake goods and establish a stable market.
