On Friday, Premier Wu Den-yih visited Formosa Plastics Group' No. 6 naphtha cracker plant in Mailiao and was briefed by plant personnel on the recent accident. Wu later reached several consensuses with Yunlin County government, including suspension of plant operations, physical exams for residents of the entire township, and a comprehensive survey of the area's agricultural and fishery losses. These measures are expected to be reviewed by August 6th.

Angry protesters hurl eggs as police try to maintain order. Although Premier Wu Den-yih had previously said that he wouldn't visit Mailiao until the investigation report for the fire had been issued, he traveled to the township on Friday to meet with Yunlin County Magistrate Su Chih-fen.

The two sides reached five consensuses during the meeting, including the suspension of plant operations, health checkups for all township residents, the suspension of Formosa Plastics Group's fifth phase of expansion, and total compensation for agricultural and fishery losses based on a survey to be conducted by the county government.

While a review of the measures was scheduled for August 6th, Su left midway through the meeting in protest over reimbursement issues.

With negotiations not yet concluded, the war between the central and local government is expected to rage on.
