Towelettes Infections
When you're feeling hot and sweaty, wet wipes may come in mind.
But now, dermatologists are seeing increasing cases of skin infections around the eye and the mouth areas from using wet wipes, which contain harmful chemicals.
Here on CTS, let's see how you can stay refreshed without a trip to the doctor.
In the hot, humid weather, water is not always readily accessible for people hoping to rinse off their sweat.
But people using towelettes to wipe off sweat have to be careful.
A 20-year-old female who used a towelette to wipe her lips afterwards started noticing welts, peeling, and a stinging sensation around her mouth area.
After seeking medical help, she learned that she developed a form of skin infection.
Meanwhile, dermatologists are discovering that similar cases have doubled.
Currently the inspection of towlettes is unregulated, so dermatologists are advising the public to avoid wiping the eye and mouth areas with towelettes, especially old and dried up ones, and to use tissue paper or regular towels instead.
