Ma Visits Chen Shu Ju
Chen Shu-ju, the vegetable vendor recently honored by Time Magazine for her exceptional philanthropist efforts, was visited by President Ma on Sunday at the market where she works. Ma purchased twenty-thousand NT dollar's worth of vegetables from her, and called her a diplomatic success for Taiwan.
President Ma made a special visit to the Central Market of Taitong City to visit vegetable vendor Chen Shu Ju, who was recently chosen as one of Time Magazine's most influential people of the year for her philanthropy.
Before she went to the United States to receive her reward in May, she had a chance to meet President Ma.
After two months, the two are meeting again with President Ma spending 20 thousand dollars to buy her vegetables.
Chen has gladly accepted President Ma as an old customer and gave him some additional onion, ginger, and garlic with his purchase.
Chen's own frugality has enabled her to donate 20 million dollars to helping the poor and has consistently been named by Forbes and Time Magazines as a world's philanthropist.
President Ma has expressed that her philanthropy has also set an excellent reputation and example for Taiwan's diplomacy.
However, Chen says she has no interest in foreign diplomacy.
Seeing the President of Taiwan coming all the way to Taitong City to buy her vegetables, is enough for this small woman of a big heart.
