STATHAM ATTENDS "SAFE" PREMIERE IN LONDON
British action star Jason Statham returned to London for the European premiere of his latest flick, 'Safe.'The 44-year-old star was happy as he was greeted by fans outside the BFI IMAX in Waterloo.
After making his name as an actor starring in Guy Ritchie's gangster movie "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," Statham has gone on to play a series of hard-man characters.
However he explained there is something different about his new flick: "Certain things I haven't done before, you know, the relationship with a young girl is the driving force which I think is very sweet and I get to save her from the evil grips of the Russian mafia and the triads."
In his latest movie 'Safe,' Statham plays a former cop who finds himself in trouble with the New York mafia when he tries to save a young Chinese girl.
Box office heavyweight Statham also revealed that he is currently making 'Hummingbird', a thriller about a reformed war veteran who has to deal with his violent past. He said he's excited about his new project.
"I am doing a really interesting film at the moment called Hummingbird with Steven Knight, who is one of the greatest writers, and he is directing this film, for me it's a huge leap in a dramatically direction never done anything like it, have to wait and see how it turns out, but for me it's a completely new challenge."
Speaking about what other genre of movies he might like to take on, Statham joked that he didn't have much choices."You know it's what comes my way if Steven Spielberg wants to give me a romantic comedy, who am I to say no to that, not that he is going to be knocking on my door for that kind of part I am sure, but you can only eat from what's on the table and you know the selection comes from the food that is laid out so for me I have been choosing from what's been available to me."
Safe is released in cinemas on Friday May 4 and in Taiwan cinemas a week later.
