STARS SHINE AT "HUNGER GAME" PREMIERE
The cast of "The Hunger Games," Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth made their appearances at the red carpet event to promote for their newest action flick.
Co-star Donald Sutherland and action star Sylvester Stallone also showed up at the event to promote the highly-anticipated action flick.
The Oscar nominated actress, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, said it was great to work with the film director, Gary Ross."It was an incredible experience making the movie, especially working with Gary,"
Director Gary Ross: "We thought about it a long time, but when Jennifer walked in there was no doubt in my mind," "When she gave an audition I knew I found her."
Based on the successful teen book of the same name by best selling author Suzanne Collins, "The Hunger Games" details a world where the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem, which was once North America, forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.
A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Facing the highly-trained 'Tributes' who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson.
If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta Mellark, Katniss's partner in the games, believes the popularity of the book has created a built-in audience for the film.
"For me it just goes back to the book, I am a huge fan of the book. It is well written and the characters are so dynamic and interesting. To see that brought to life on screen is why that is buzzing right now,"Co-star Liam Hemsworth also commented why the film created such a big buzz.
"I think with any great story you have to have characters that an audience is going to care about and root for. Every character in these books is someone you care about and want to see them get out of the situation they are in. Strong characters are a very big part of it."
The film will hit U.S. and Taiwan theaters on March 23.
