White envelopes may be considered ominous in Chinese culture; however, they have become a symbol of generosity in northern Germany nowadays. 　　A secret donor has been making residents of the northern German town of Braunschweig believe in miracles again by giving out white envelopes filled with 500 euro notes to local good causes, including a self help group for victims of crime, a nursery, four parishes, a food distribution centre for poor and a hospice center. 　　Alfred Huge, the managing director of the 'Braunschweiger Tafel: 　　"Now we have someone here in Braunschweig who hands out envelopes with money. And that money helps institutions to help someone else," "And we are regarded as one of them and I think this is wonderful, that our work is recognized in this way." 　　All in all, 190,000 euros, around 248,995 US dollars have been donated so far. And nobody knows the identity of the donor yet. But maybe that is the peculiarity of the case. 　　One of the local newspaper editor believes that this is the copycat of a former secret donor in the neighboring town, where a church community received 3,000 euros. 　　The anonymous donor has been called the 'Robin Hood of Braunschweig.' and whatever the true motive behind such generous action may be, the altruistic donations are a positive story amongst all the negative stories that fill the papers.
