SEAN PENN HONORED IN HAITI
Hollywood star Sean Penn was named as the ambassador-at-large for Haiti by Haiti's President Michel Martelly at a ceremony that honors Penn's effort in the relief work he leads in Haiti for earthquake victims.
"Thank you for your unconditionally support for Haiti. Making you ambassador (at large) is in recognition for all the work you do. The only downside with making you ambassador is that I can no longer call you Sean but Ambassador Penn."
Sean Penn said that he would honor the commitment."With great gratitude and respect and with great gratitude to the Haitian people that are at the core of what inspires us all, I'm going to honor the commitment that this honor brings."
The 51-year-old two-time Academy Award Winner has been supporting several political and social causes. Following the 7.0-magnutude earthquake that ravaged large parts of Haiti and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, Sean Penn launched J/P Haitian Relief Organization shortly after the 2010 quake to help local communities rebuild and return to normal lives.
They currently run the tent camp for approximately 20,000 people displaced after the quake.
