Free video chat is coming to Facebook. The company will integrate Skype into its social networking service- opening up its 750 million users to the video conferencing company. Adding the ability to speak to Facebook friends without switching to a different program is a benefit, says PCMag.com's Lance Ulanoff. "This introduction of Skype integration does make Facebook a better service because without a doubt it's probably one of the number one things people wanted to do mainly because of who uses Facebook. Average people use Facebook. Not the technorati." The roll out comes just a week after rival Google unveiled Google+, which allows up to 10 people to participate in a video call. The Facebook service is initially limited to video chats betweentwo people. The move also closer aligns Facebook Microsoft -which owns a small share of Facebook and is in the process of buying Skype, to beef up its web offerings. "It means that you've got sort of these battle lines drawn, right? On one side you've got Google trying to build in social, build in all the tools that it sees on the Facebook Microsoft side, because more and more Facebook and Microsoft are making a tighter and tighter relationship, and believe me the decision to go with Skype is a lot about Microsoft." Facebook also unveiled a new group messaging function, building on its existing one-to-one text chat.
