FEARS OVER A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS CAUSED BY ELECTIONS MERGER
The decision to combine both elections has provoked concerns over a constitutional crisis, since the presidential voting day would then be four months apart from the May 20th inauguration.
And in the event of a KMT loss in the presidential race, some worry that a four month vacuum before the transfer of power will make the nation especially vulnerable to emergencies.
Requests have therefore been made for the parliament to prevent the problem through further legislation, but some lawmakers in the opposition party believe that such a proposal does not really address the core issue.
