MAX WORKING HOURS FOR SECURITY GUARDS
Under the coordination of the Council of Labor Affairs, discussions have been recently held over an upper limit on the daily working hours of security guards. And according to the latest conclusion, the maximum regular working hours for a security guard will be set at 10 per day, with a two-hour limit on overtime. And the new regulation is scheduled to take effect on May first 2012.
After 4 hours of heated discussion between labor and employer representatives, the CLA has finally set the working guidelines for those in the security guard industry for local governments reference.
Starting May of next year, the normal working hours for security guards and others in the industry will be 10 hours per day with no more than 12 hours per day.
Starting immediately, in emergency, those guards cannot work over 14 hours while those must be given at least 12 hours of rest.
The guideline also indicates that, personal security guard and those guarding cash transportation vehicles should not work over 168 hours in 4 weeks period, which is the most strict compare to others.
However, labor groups pointed out that, the CLA working guideline that was proposed to the Taipei city Labor Bureau of no more than 260 hours per month is still an unacceptable number.
In response, the CLA said that the guideline was a result of agreement between the labor group and the employer reps for there are many kinds of jobs in the field and the guidelines should not set minimum and maximum limits.
In order to protect basic rights to vacation, there should be a day off for every 7 days, while two days should be granted every 14 days, including national holidays off.
in the future, those violating the regulations of security personnel should have their license revoked.
