Another safety threat has been found in Lushan of Nantou County, where a large crack measuring 20 meters long appeared on the ground at a local elementary school. Experts observed that while the phenomenon does not pose any immediate danger, it may lead to severe landslides if heavy rains or earthquakes hit the area.

There are several cracks discovered in or around the school.

According to teachers, for the past two years, the cracks have been widening.

Besides the elementary school, the signs of land subsidence and cracking are common in many houses in the tribe.

Residents worry that their houses may collapse.

Scholars who inspect the site discovered the phenomenon of land creep from the aerial photos, which means the land slowly slides.

After the typhoon Sinlaku in 2008, several mountain slides took place around the mountain slopes.

Since the elementary school and the tribe are located below the dip slope, huge landslides or mudslides would likely happen when torrential rain or earthquake take place.

The extent of damage could be hard to imagine.

Given the devastation caused by Japan's earthquake, local residents grew more worried over the possbility of similiar tragedies in the future.
