Taiwan is regarded as the Kingdom of Butterfly Orchids, and the island is renowned for the quality and variety of its orchids. Taiwan is home to more than 3,000 orchid species, including various types of the rare slipper orchid.
With more than 800 varieties available, butterfly orchids are one of Taiwan's most competitive agricultural exports due to their high quality and low price.
Taiwan's butterfly orchid exports surpassed 3 billion NT last year, making it the top butterfly orchid exporter in the world.
The majority of shipments go to the U.S. and Japan, but Taiwan has not yet been able to gain a foothold in the European market due to European regulations prohibiting the import of orchids with moss.
