HUMAN CONVEYOR BELT OF BOOKS
A group of over 2,000 students in the Huwei town of Yunlin county formed a human conveyor belt of about 2 kilometers long earlier this week to pass more than 5,000 books from an old local library to its new building. And the town's chief hopes that through the activity, local students will gain a deeper appreciation for the value of reading.
Students picked the first book from Huwei town chief Lin Wen-bing and began the activity of passing books among 2,000 students
The public library has existed for nearly 40 years and the area is slightly over 100 pings, not enough to cope with the needs of the local residents.
The township office came up with the idea to move the last batch of books through the hands of students.
Since the distance between the old and the new library is only 2.5 kilometers, students stood on the street to form a long line, passing books one to another.
Students who took part in the event said it was fun and unforgettable.
The chief says the new library has 40,000 books and over 700 pings in area, a lot bigger and more comfortable for readers.
The activity also served as a promotional tool to inform everyone of the launch of the new library.
