Providing Subsidy to Farmers
The collapse of the Suhua Highway has led to a series of problems, including increasing the traveling time and expense for agricultural farmers to transport their produce. In lessening their burden, the Council of Agriculture is planning to provide financial assistance right away.
All these tons of clams need to take the truck and the train before they arrive on the markets. Many workers were pulling the rope together to bind the items. These were all products from farmers of Taitung and need to be sold, so that they could feed their families.
As a result of the landslide and the collapse of Suhua Highway, many agricultural products from Yilan, Hualien and even Taitung can't be exported out of their area by the usual transportation. Now, they have to use the railcar to send them up to the north.
A route from Hualien to Taipei used to be 5 hours. Due to this circumstance, they have to spend about 7 hours. Also, one-way transport by railcar costs 3,000 NTD, that's why the Council of Agriculture decided quickly for a subsidy of 50 million NTD.
1 ton of rice, for example, farmers could get a subsidy of 250 NTD.
No matter if the subsidy program is satisfying, it is indeed a help to all the farmers.
