Antique Phone Collections
For an overview of the evolution of telephone technology, there's probably not a better place to go than the home of this Yunlin-based collector, who owns nearly 200 telephones of different eras from the antique hand-crank models to the early versions of cell phones. Here at CTS News, let's take a look at his extraordinary collection.
Here is a table full of antique phones, ranging from hand crank phones to these elegant phones.
Each one can be connected to a telephone line and used like typical phone.
This is Yunlin County's Beigang Township where Yang Shun-Fa has collected many phones, so many that he cannot count them though the collection is around 200 units.
Yang says that during the early stage of retrocession, installing a telephone would cost nearly 1,000 US dollars which would be the equivalent of more than 40,000 NT$.
The average family in Taiwan didn't have such a phone, and probably had not used one.
In 1961, the hand crank phone started to become apparent in the villages.
However, with the passing of time, button dialed phones to digital phones and even mobile phones, Yang has all of these phones in his collection.
It is like that of a small museum, and despite some of the high prices for these antique phones, he has been truly reluctant to sell.
