Long-lasting Luck
In our previous report, we have explained to you about the pronunciation of the number "9" which means "enduring" in Mandarin. With that said, September 9th has become a symbolic day for many, so in our next story, let's take a look at what people are doing to make this special day even more extraordinary.
At 9:09 a.m. on September 9th, temple bells at 99 temples around Taipei City rang unanimously, hoping to bring fortune and peace to worshipers. Many people came to the temples early just to receive blessings at the exact time.
Some temples had even prepared gifts for worshipers such as pomelos and golden coins of goddess Mazu.
These worshipers were not the only ones hoping to become lucky on this day.
163 couples chose to get married at the 9:09 am yesterday in a group wedding held by Taipei city government.
The couples hoped that they would all have happily lasting marriages just as number 9 stands for "enduring" and "long-lasting".
The city government also gave each couple a golden marriage certificate, hoping the love for each other would last forever just like gold.
Besides marriages, some couples even chose to have their babies born on at 9:09 a.m on September 9th.
To all the parents and families, every baby was a symbol of long-lasting love within the family and they hoped the joyous moment would last forever just as the date suggested.
