Little Shop of Nostalgia
If you're in the mood for nostalgia, this may be the place to visit. A man in Taipei County has a passion for collecting items that are at least 40 years old, from TV set to health care products. And he proudly displays his collection in his store. Now let's take a look at these precious memorabilia of decades past.
It may seem a bit odd to find products like these in twenty-first century Taiwan, but this store is never meant for keeping up with the times. Its owner, Mr. Hsu, is a collector of nostalgic items dating back to at least the 1970's. And the store he manages with his wife feels like a giant time capsule, where the young may find interesting things they never know exist, while older customers can renew their childhood memories.
Of all the items displayed here, this lock of hair may be the most valuable. It dates back all the way to the years of Japanese rule in Taiwan, and used to be among the island's export commodities to Japan.
Preserving these antiquated items is no easy task, and Mrs. Hsu admits that she sometimes grumbled about her husband's unusual and costly hobby. But over the years, she's also developed a special affection for these shopworn treasures, and found all the trouble and effort worthwhile.
