Bamboo Shoot Ice Cream
It's the season for eating bamboo shoots, and in Yuan Shan village of Yilan County, the land of bamboo shoots, a fresh and low- calorie summer treat is available to satisfy your sweet tooth.
In Chinese cuisine, bamboo shoots are commonly used in soup, or cooked with other vegetables and meat.
Now, here in Yuan Shan Village, the locals have found another way of utilizing their main produce.
Try this bamboo shoot ice cream without having guilty pleasures.
First, you uproot the bamboo shoots from the garden, and then put it into the boiling pot, until it's fully cooked.
Add some sugar to it, and after cooling it off, place the bamboo shoots into the ice cream machine, then pour some fresh milk for some creamy texture. After a waiting time of 15 minutes, the cotton-like ice cream is ready for tasting. The milk-flavored bamboo shoot ice cream is high in fiber, low in calories and is best served during this hot season. If you missed it this time around, you'll have to wait until next summer to try out this creative refreshment.
