"THE HUNGER GAMES," SET TO BE A HIT
The Hunger Games," based on the novel of Suzanne Collins, is heating up in hopes to rival against 'Harry Potter' and 'Twilight' as the next big box office franchise. "The Hunger Games" sees 24 children known as 'tributes' fight to the death in an annual televised event across the nation of Panem, built on the ruins of America.
21-year-old Lawrence, who earned a best actress Oscar nomination in 2011 for her role in indie film "Winter's Bone," found herself drawn to the character of Katniss and came to the role as an avid fan of the books.
"It's a wonderful book to bring to life, she's such an amazing character that you want to follow, and I think that they were, it's a great message for our generation so I was excited that they were going to bring them to the screen,"
"I love that she is a warrior for her people, she's a Joan of Arc, she's a fighter. And I wanted to bring out more of her vulnerability when she was in the Games, I didn't want anybody to forget that she could die at any minute, I never wanted that to kind of slip from the movie," said the young actress.
Lawrence's co-star, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, who plays Katniss' friend Gale from District 12, was compelled by the characters' fight against the tyrannical ruling in the film.
"As an audience, you want to see these characters get out of the situation that they're in, these innocent people that are being forced to do horrible things and forced to watch it, and I just wanted to see them get out of it, and fight back against it," Hemsworth explained.
Adapted by one of the best-selling novels that already has a huge fan base, the Hunger Games actors said they felt a deep responsibility to the fans and the movie.
"I think it's exciting to have that many people who are that into the story before we even start shooting, but yes, there's a bit of pressure, but at the same time, I think it kind of fueled me to do better.""The Hunger Games" will be in theaters tomorrow.
