PANDAS ARRIVED IN FRANCE
This isn't your typical cargo plane touching down in France. In its belly are two very important diplomats - a pair of giant pandas.
China has donated the bears to a zoo in the city of St. Aignan - marking the first time in a decade that giant pandas have resided in France.
Since the 1950s, China has sent the bears abroad as gestures of political goodwill in what has come to be known as "panda diplomacy."The bears, named Huan Huan and Yuan Zi, were housed in special cages for the long flight from Chengu in southern China.
Officials said the pandas - who are both three years old - arrived in perfect condition. The pair are now bound for the Beauval Zoo where officials are hoping they will breed. (Andrew Raven/Reuters)
