BETTER RELATIONSHIP, SLIMMER FIGURE?
A new study published in this week's edition of Pediatrics finds that a poor mother and child relationship could increase the little one's chances of becoming an obese teenager.
Through surveying the data of 977 children in the United States, investigators found 241 children, around more than 25 percent of all toddlers who have poor emotional relationships with their mothers were obese as teens, compared to adolescents who were close to their moms at 13 percent.
The researchers said that the finding suggests that the areas of the brain that control emotions and stress, along with appetite and energy balance, could work together to influence the likelihood that a child will be obese.
Investigators say instead of just blaming the mother for her child's obesity or focusing on the childs eating habits or exercise, more efforts should be made to improve mother-child relationships earlier in a youngster's life.
Researchers also suggest that people should offer support to better-quality maternal-child relationships, which as previously mentioned, could influence children's health.
