GROUPS ADVISE ABUSED MOMS TO SEEK HELP
Based on the statistics provided by the Ministry of the Interior, the 113 hotline for the protection of women and children receives 153 phone calls per day on average, with most of the callers being mothers abused by their husbands. With Mother's Day just around the corner, some civil groups are encouraging abused moms to seek help in order to prevent domestic violence from happening again.
Hui-ling is a slim, petite woman and a mother of six.
She makes a living to support the family by doing odd jobs.
But she and her kids have long been physically abused by her husband.
The physical and mental torture results in her depression.
Unwilling to take it anymore, she made a call to the 113 hotline for woman and children protection, seeking for help.
According to the statistics of Ministry of the Interior, the number of calls regarding to family and marital relationship conflict has been on the rise.
In 2011, the hotline has received 152.9 phone calls on the average daily basis.
About forty percent of the calls are seeking for help.
But local groups wonder there are more domestic violence victims who haven't asked for help.
While Mother's Day is fast approaching, local groups urge mothers to protect themselves and kids by looking for help if they are domestic violence victims.
