You may have to blame the food rather than their study habits for their bad grades. A recent UK study shows that greasy and processed food may have a negative impact on children's brains, as well as their bodies. Here on CTS, we explain.

Everybody loves hamburgers!

However, you might want to think twice before buying hamburgers for your kids after knowing that it could harm your children's brain development.

According to a UK survey that tracks the long-term health and well-being of children aged between 3 and 8, children who often consume French fries and cookies score 5 points lower in IQ tests than those who have healthy diets.

Domestic dieticians are also agreeing with the finding.

Su Shiao-yueh, dietician of the Taipei Medical University Hospital, said that if young children consume fatty and processed foods instead of vitamins and necessary nutrients for development, their brains will not grow to optimum levels.

It is crucial for young children to have proper diets in their first several years of life when their brains are developing.

Also, several studies have indicated that junk foods are highly associated with childhood obesity, which poses a lifetime influence on one's health.

Researchers said that the link between junk food and low IQ is not really a cause-and-effect relationship; there are also other factors that would influence children's IQ including parenting styles, home environment and education.

Still the research points out the importance of a balanced diet.

Therefore, parents are advised to provide their kids with healthy diets full of fruit and vegetables.
