The Child Welfare League Foundation has held a press conference to discuss recent developments of the children who have been tragically affected by Typhoon Morakot. Officials are now pledging to take care of their needs until they are able to be on their own.

One year ago, Typhoon Morakot devastated Taiwan and left 84 children orphaned or homeless.

On Monday, the children wrote thank-you cards to the public for their assistance.

According to Child Welfare League Foundation statistics, most of the 16 children that lost their homes are now living with grandparents or other relatives, while the majority of the 68 children that lost a parent are now living with their surviving parent.

Their lives have gradually stabilized over the past year, and the foundation has pledged to take care of them until they reach adulthood.

Ya-tzu lost her father during Morakot and now lives with her mother.

On Monday, First Lady Christine Chow presented them with sunflowers and delivered hugs and words of encouragement.

Both mother and daughter broke down in tears, but they say that they are determined to keep living their lives, and are grateful to everyone that has helped them over the past year.
